I forgot it was here until revisiting the whole blog thing and going to write about a recent trip to Mijo's....
Place: Kennedy Plaza, Providence Rhode Island.
We (my family) had been planning to visit the Waterfire event for the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting, that our daughter had received information on months ago. Until a few days ago Waterfire was all we had planned to go and see. As usual we talked about going to the Union Station Brewhouse before Waterfire since we can get some really good food and beer AND get parking about 100' from Waterfire in their validated lot. I was also looking for other dining options in downtown Providence, of which there are many.
On Friday the 28th I stumbled across information for the First Works Arts Festival being held in Kennedy Plaza on the same night as Waterfire. One of the highlighted events of the evening was Foodfight Waterfire from 4PM til 10:00PM. A friendly competition for Providence based Foodtrucks!!!!! I knew this was something I had to check out.

We left home around 4:00, got off at Atwells Ave and came down to Washington St. We parked at the Biltmore Garage, and walked a block to Kennedy Plaza. Right in the middle of the plaza there was about a dozen food trucks. It was the first time I'd seen so many food trucks in one location. In it's regular spot standing guard over Kenedy Plaza was the grandaddy of all food trucks, the legendary Haven's Brothers Diner.
We decided on trying out the Mijo's Taco Truck. The lines weren't too long. Two orders of tacos (Beef with Green Salsa and Beef with Red Salsa) and a Tostada later we found a table for 4 near the trucks and enjoyed out food. It was good. The tacos came 3 to the order with 2 small soft corn tortillas, big chunks of beef with some onion and cilantro mixed in and the sauce we ordered. They were awesome! I was hooked. My wife thinks I'm nuts. Oh well!
Around Thanksgiving, my brother and I decided to try and catch Mijo's Truck on Thayer St. in Providence an a late night. We got to Thayer around 8:00. There was Mama Kims near the gate at Brown, and a disreputable little tow behind camper trailer selling Gyros. No Mijos to be found. We decided to try some Korean BBQ. We put in our order and the nice people there told us they were out of certain items, and we made some last minute substitutions and hybrid egg roll choices. Two minutes after placing our order another party came to the window and were told that the truck was not taking any other orders. Timing is everything. We got two Rice Combos and a mized order of Beef and Kimchi mini eggrolls. Once again all were spectacular. The side of fresh kimchi included with the rice combo was deemed "The Best Kimchi Ever" by my brother!
